Both Table and Stool
An Origin Story
I’m excited to introduce to you the first piece of furniture that we’re offering ‘made-to-order’, at our online Shop. It's a solid wood stool, that doubles up as an occasional table and stacks away.

There are four options currently available:
Oak
Dark Oak
Ash
Light Ash
Each is made of solid wood from local suppliers of well managed woodlands, and we have now started to use material from the Herefordshire woodland we jointly own and manage for increasing bio-diversity.
The stool, which doubles up as an occasional table, is an expression of my life’s work to date; a synthesis of the things that matter to me. Holistic design, a careful and considered use of materials, respecting traditions, and honouring nature. It’s taken months of development over the past few years, to arrive at something seemingly simple.

So where did it begin? Quite simply, we often needed extra seating for larger gatherings. We also found that we often had visitors who prefer to have a handy surface right next to where they are sitting (as opposed to our large, central coffee table).
It’s easily positioned with one hand - useful when you’re also holding a mug - and can be neatly stacked away when not in use. An unforeseen bonus has been to use a stack to get the perfect height for laptop zoom calls from the sofa.

From purely practical beginnings, the form has been refined to be light yet strong, and to accommodate the characteristics and requirements of solid wood. I’ve drawn inspiration from an Ash croquet mallet I inherited from my great-grandfather.

I’ve used its octagonal form at the ‘feet’ of my stool, blending this through a gradual taper with the lighter chamfers at the top of each leg frame and providing strength where needed: nothing is superfluous! Each element is carefully selected, for strength, stability, and aesthetics, with joints that will stand the test of time.
Our oil finishes are from Auro - a supplier that’s been at the forefront of green chemistry, committed to “preserving and promoting the health of people and nature”. The oils allow the wood to express its natural beauty.
